“Playback” is a specific style of improvisational theater created by Jonathan Fox in the mid-1970s in upstate New York and is now practiced around the world. The Playback Workshop Theatre of St. Louis offers our audiences the opportunity to tell and watch their own true stories come to life through interactive, improvisational theater.
This unique style of theater requires not only the open and generous participation of our audiences but also demands the best from our company as they bring these stories to life immediately on the spot. Our work is an artistically innovative, thoroughly unpredictable, and wonderfully thought-provoking improvisational “replay” (hence playback) of the stories lent to us by our audience using a wide variety of stage techniques, movement, and music.
